Botox® is a very diluted form of the botulinum protein. It has been used
successfully and without any long-term negative effects since the 1990s, and
very few short term complications have been seen. Botox® has been proven to be
safe and effective in removing the dynamic wrinkles that result from repeated
facial expressions, but is not a permanent solution and follow-up visits about
three to six months apart are needed to keep the wrinkles from reappearing.
Which conditions can be treated by Botox®?
Botox® is very safe and successful at removing the wrinkles that appear on the
face due to repetitive facial expressions. It is an excellent way to remove the
unsightly horizontal lines that show up on foreheads, crows feet wrinkles from
around the eyes, vertical wrinkles that can appear on an upper lip, and the
scowl lines that often appear between the eyebrows at the top of the nose.

How is Botox® Administered?
Botox® is delivered by injection and does not require a hospital setting. It is
virtually painless, and there is no recovery time.
How Does Botox® Work to Remove My Wrinkles?
A Botox® injection weakens, through inhibition, the muscles that cause the
wrinkles, but does not normally interfere with facial expressions. Weakening the
muscle that causes the wrinkles to form creates dramatic improvement in
appearance that can be seen within two to seven days.
What Should I Expect During and After the Botox® Treatment?
There may be, at most, mild discomfort when the doctor administers the
injections and some slight bruising may appear in the few days after the
treatment. This can be easily covered with makeup It is possible to return to
work immediately after your treatment.
How Long Does The Botox® Treatment Last?
The muscles that were weakened by a Botox® injection eventually regain their
strength and the wrinkles may reappear. On average, the treatment lasts for
three months, but it may stretch for up to six months.
